What are the requirements for credentialing with Doula Doc & Me?

To be credentialed under Doula Doc & Me, doulas must:

     Be MDHHS-certified

     Maintain an active malpractice insurance policy

     Adhere to all Michigan Medicaid (MDHHS) policies, including those outlined in Medicaid bulletins and the Medicaid Provider Manual

     Comply with Doula Doc & Me documentation standards when providing insurance-billed services

All credentialed doulas must either:

     Already be enrolled as a CHAMPS Medicaid provider, or

     Meet the requirements to enroll as a CHAMPS provider (Doula Doc & Me can assist with enrollment)

Do I need to be enrolled in Michigan Medicaid (CHAMPS) to join Doula Doc & Me?

No. If you are not yet enrolled in CHAMPS, Doula Doc & Me will help you enroll.

We provide an easy-to-use onboarding form that collects all documentation required for CHAMPS enrollment. This same documentation is used to credential you with participating health plans.

You complete the form, and we manage the administrative process on your behalf.

Am I an employee of Doula Doc & Me?

No. All doulas working with Doula Doc & Me are independent contractors.

 You retain full control over your schedule, services, and practice structure.

Can I Use Doula Doc & Me for Some Clients but Not Others?

Yes. Many doulas use Doula Doc & Me in a hybrid way.

If you are a Basic user, you may still use the platform to:

  • Take notes

  • Track clients

  • Store documentation

  • Manage scheduling and records

However, if you would like Doula Doc & Me to bill insurance on your behalf for any clients, you must register as a Premium doula.

As a Premium doula:

  • You may still manage some clients independently or as cash-pay clients.

  • Only the clients you choose to submit for insurance billing need to be processed through the Doula Doc & Me billing workflow.

For clients submitted to Doula Doc & Me for insurance billing:

  • Billing must be submitted through the Doula Doc & Me platform

  • Documentation must comply with Doula Doc & Me guidelines and payer requirements

  • A platform fee applies to each reimbursed claim

Will Doula Doc & Me refer clients to me?


Doula Doc & Me provides visibility through the Doula Doc & Me Directory

  • Directory participation is free

  • No referral fees are charged for clients who find you through the directory

  • Client referrals are not guaranteed

Doulas enrolled in Premium plans receive enhanced visibility, including priority placement on the Doula Doc & Me website, helping them stand out to clients searching for services.

Doulas on Basic or Premium Plus plans may also choose optional zip-code–based marketing and promotional visibility for a fee (pricing varies by region) to further increase exposure and potential client inquiries.

Does Doula Doc & Me support doula groups or collectives?

Yes.

     Doulas may share access to client charts in the electronic record

     Care can be partially shared or fully transferred

     The doula providing services on the date of service submits documentation

     All documentation must meet third party payer regulation standards

Clients may request reassignment at any time

How do doulas get paid?

Payment depends on the plan a doula is enrolled in.

Basic and Basic Unlimited doulas manage their own billing. They may either submit insurance claims independently or collect payment directly from clients through a private-pay (cash-based) model.

Premium doulas are credentialed under Doula Doc & Me and submit claims through the organization. Doula Doc & Me manages insurance billing, claims processing, and eligibility verification. Once insurance reimbursement is received, doulas are paid according to the payment terms outlined in the Provider Agreement, typically within 90 days of claim submission. 

How long does credentialing take?

Credentialing timelines vary depending on the insurance payer and the state in which the doula practices.

In most cases, credentialing can take approximately 30–90 days after all required documentation has been submitted. Some payers may take longer.

Doula Doc & Me assists Premium Plan and Clinic Plan doulas by managing the credentialing application process, payer enrollment, and follow-up with insurance companies to help streamline approval.

While credentialing is in progress, doulas may still prepare their profiles, onboard clients, and use the Doula Doc & Me platform tools.

Basic Doula Plan

What is the Basic Plan?

Basic Plan

The Basic plan provides doulas with access to the Doula Doc & Me technology platform to manage their practice. Doulas on this plan do not credential under Doula Doc & Me and do not submit insurance claims through the platform. Instead, doulas submit insurance claims independently on their own or operate within a private-pay (cash-based) model.

The Basic plan includes access to Doula Doc & Me’s EMR and practice management tools, such as:

  • Client onboarding and intake

  • Booking and scheduling tools

  • Secure documentation storage

  • Education and resource tools

  • Patient SMS and secure chat features

Under Basic plan, doulas handle their own insurance billing and invoicing independently, while using Doula Doc & Me’s platform to manage their practice operations.

Doulas may upgrade at any time to Premium Plan for credentialing and billing support.


Premium Doula Plan

What is the Premium Plan?

Under the Premium Plan, the doula is credentialed under Doula Doc & Me and submits insurance claims through the organization rather than billing independently.

Under this model, Doula Doc & Me provides administrative and operational support to help doulas participate in insurance-based care.

Administrative services include:

  • Credentialing and payer enrollment

  • Insurance billing and claims management

  • Eligibility verification

  • Access to the Doula Doc & Me EMR

  • Enhanced marketing and referral support

This option is designed for doulas who want to accept insurance while Doula Doc & Me manages the administrative infrastructure required for credentialing, billing, and compliance.

Administrative fees apply and are outlined in the Doula Doc & Me Provider Agreement. These fees support credentialing, billing services, compliance oversight, and operational infrastructure.

Can I still run my private practice while working with Doula Doc & Me?

Absolutely.

You are free to operate your doula practice independently. When billing insurance through Doula Doc & Me:

     Visits must be documented in the Doula Doc & Me EMR

     Documentation must meet Doula Doc & Me standards

     Services must comply with MDHHS and health plan guidelines

We prioritize doula autonomy while maintaining payer and regulatory compliance.

Clinical Doula Plan

What is a Clinical Doula?

Doula Doc & Me partners with clinics and hospitals to support integrated doula care models.

These opportunities allow doulas to work more closely within healthcare settings and support patients directly within clinical environments.

What This Role May Include

Clinic- and hospital-based doulas may:

  • Be placed within a clinic or hospital setting

  • Receive a higher volume of patient referrals

  • Provide scheduled or on-call coverage

  • Collaborate more closely with clinical teams and care coordinators

Because these roles require additional coordination, scheduling, and institutional integration, a higher administrative fee spplies.
